2007 - A Review

Being the last day of the year I couldn't resisiting putting up the last post for 2007. The beginning of reviw for this year would be the biggest event of my life - My wedding to cutie. Prior to wedding I had lots of fun with S&V, I had a shopping trip, there was a lot of excitement, I winded up from work in May, completed assignments before travel....June was the big month, July was relocation month and new beginning....we had lots of fun trips - Tahoe, Reno, Vegas, Santa Barbara and also the last one was LA n San Diego. I have made new friends, getting used to the life here, the driving I somehow managed to pass the test, wrote a TOEFL, read many novels, went for a dandia first time ever, got the chance to invite guests home and took up a volunteer job too. In short, quite an eventful year, but the new year would be challenging in terms of getting a job and better grip completely the life here.. Wishing all a Happy 2008 - hope it brings success, joy and peace! :-) Keep smiling

Ratatouille

To begin with, animated movies have mostly been impressive, specially the Pixar ones are out of this world. The new addition to such creativity is Ratatouille!I guess I am late in viewing this movie, but nevertheless, here's what i want to review this flick as.... The protagonist is Remy ,a young rat, who desires more than a rat's life.He doesn't believe in "stealing" food from garbage, he desires sensible food like the humans...Remy apparently likes humans, learns to read, wants to walk on just 2 legs and manages to watch some TV....it is thru a cookery show where Remy learns about cook Gusteau and earns his inspiration to become a cook! Circumstances take Remy to Paris and to his delight to "Gusteau's Bistro". Remy can't resist to apply his cooking skills on a soup and the credit falls on Linguini, the garbage boy.It soon turns out that they become best of friends, Linguini is promoted to cook and while Linguini is hopeless at cooking, Remy instru

Down South for Thanksgiving

Big Sur ,Santa Barbara and Solvang were our choices for a 2-day break during Thanksgiving holidays....Beautiful beyond words, you drive along the rocky coastline, the lovely Pacific , roads through mountains- very green adventure this time... We stopped at Carmel and Pfieffer beaches, the popular Rocky and Bixby bridges, many vista points in Big Sur - Freeway1 was just too good! We reached Santa Barbara by evening and by the time we pulled up some energy , it was time for dinner and decided to take a walk by the Stearns Wharf.they have a Flag project there, a sand sculpture had been done, the breeze is very chilly ,but the board walk is great in the day time.State Street is the highlight of the downtown, lit up for Thanksgiving and Christmas, its a pretty sight in the evenings! The following day we visited the Historic museum which is a decent overview of their barbaric forefathers, marine, mammal, plant life besides an astronomy center. We drove to Solvang , known as the Danish capita

Mission peak hike

1st Sunday of November, the clocks moved 1 hour backward and the feeling is just great...like you are granted an extra hour and tested as to how you use it! this is the first time i am experiencing a time change and having slept till 10.30 i was guessing this sunday should be as lazy and eventless as usual...but i couldnt contain my excitement when i checked the time and it showed just 9.30, to add to it was the bright sun lighting up the mood , a long due hike was to be put into action ! :-) Mission peak was the nearest one and challenging enough for a first-timer like me. I was impressed by the crowd that hikes, specially kids who were at ease...i found the first half of the climb more challenging, getting used to the slopes- there are just about 4 resting spots in the entire climb and they are great to enjoy the view! Once at the peak, it gives you the "I am on top of the world" feeling...the salt marshlands can clearly be seen in white from that height and a lovely view o

An early Halloween scare!

However sad this might sound, I had to put this thought down my blog....Halloween is today but we got "BOOO-ed" last night itself...it was a mutual feeling among most in San Francisco bay area! Mother Nature was the originator and she brought us an earth quake,a comparitively mild one of 5.6 according to Richter scale ! A little after 8pm, I was still tryin to finish my cooking and suddenly I felt a shake initially thought it was something to do with the above floor and then when it continued, I realised it was a quake ,atleast a tremor....that moment I was panicking, I didnt know if it was right to be inside, run out or look for the keys or take my mobile with me....it was my first ever experience! I must say inspite of the shake I saw , hardly anything was damaged and most of the things were still in place...anyways I managed to step out n speak to my neighbours and since I was alone, they could see the fear in me! one of them started speaking about a similar experience a f

Lagging

Its that dark feeling again, the lost, hopeless, the dimming light at the end of the tunnel...when you have worked so hard, when you have tried to do your best, but things still don't really turn out as planned, its the most disheartening state ever. The famous "why me" query bounces back...mind is filled with unanswered thoughts, lost its peace and now so hurt that basic routine things are disturbed , as a result health fails and its like a vicious circle. Life's such a challenge sometimes!

Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz

Set between the Redwood Forests of Santa Cruz, lies a mystery spot, where scientific theories of gravity and laws of physics fail to explain, where a permanently tilted home manages to stay on for years together cos of an unknown reason. As you climb up the hill you feel more than gravity pulling you away from the hill, as you enter the home, the force is even more stronger to fight against...its really strange out there! There is a pendulum set inside the house and instead of moving equal directions, you find it swinging more away from the house. You stand straight against the house, but you are tiled - now that can be optical illusion, since you are on a hill and a tilted house...there are points where I appear taller than I am and sometimes shorted than I am. Though we may call it magnetic force of some kind, the guides claim the magnetic compass does not work up there. Mobile phones are dead up there, what seems to be level to the eye, is not really level when you are experimenting.

Michael Clayton

The movie was a last minute plan for me last Saturday. Featuring George Clooney, the movie boasts classic acting, good dialogues and lives up to the drama cum thriller theme.... I was initially lost about the plot, cos all I could make out was the protagonist "a fixer" is a success as far as his company is concerned, but his personal traits that lets him down as to what he has become, sometimes reminded by his intelligent son. Broke and unhappy about himself, the man is completely committed to his employer. Once we understand the protagonist, we begin to sympathize with him due to unpleasant situations he goes through, day in and day out. He finally has to deal with one of the best lawyer colleague stuck in a mental trauma,Arthur Edens. This time instead of "fixing" the case,Clayton solves it, thus unwrapping the genuine plead of the unstable but brilliant lawyer. The movie grips your attention as it progresses, this flick is slow but watchable.

Pause

I have been occupied with something or the other and didnt really get a chance to blog. Since my hubby's bday was coming up at the start of this month, I wanted to complete stitching a kit. I had begun quite lazily on it, but managed to spend hours together every day and complete it on his birthday. I made some brownies too as a gift, but I somehow wasnt too impressed with the results. I imagined the brownies more softer than it turned out, anyways, since there were no complaints, i guess perfection shud be aimed for the next trial. We had amazing dinner for his bday at a new place called "temptations" at downtown famous for indo-chinese fusion, the food was yum and the gobi manchurian was the best I have had in ages...it was just too good! Besides that I am volunteering at ICC, a fun place and a pleasant lady to work with. My new adventure has been the VTA buses great timings n quite close to my points of stop. I once got a free ride since the bus was empty and I guess I

Saturday evening flick

"The Brave one" is the story of a common woman ,Erica, in a busy city - successful RJ, soon to be wed , happy girl whose life turns upside down cos of a senseless attack that results in the loss of her fiance. The mental trauma, the new person that she becomes due to this terrible event is the focus of the film.Inspite of the fact that she had lead her entire life in NewYork, she feels threatened at all times. To fight her fear she arms herself and eventually seeks her own revenge. There is total empathy with this character and the movie invokes thoughts of how unsafe socities have now become. Most of the movie is lead by Jodie Foster, who couldn't be better. Dialogues are excellent, specially those of the RJ show focusing on the ever-changing city and the comical ones of detective scenes. The movie has violence to watch out for and tag line was very well kept ...

After a sleepy weekend!

I am more awake today, I slept so much in the weekend, like i had lost the privilege to sleep! (which is ofcourse nonsense).I have nothing particular to do. I got so mad last week when I wanted to blog about Las Vegas, almost at the end of my post, i lost the whole content! it was so discouraging....anyway coming back to the highlight - yea, we went on a trip to Vegas ,also popularly termed "Sin city" and "Lost wages", i particularly like the latter title.Mornings can be a lot os sight seeing with recreations of populars symbols from all over the world , photographers would probably love it.Some people take it slow in the pool ! It turns into quite a tease in the evening with the long queues at the night clubs and variety of shows.Famous pop artists Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera were in town besides a range of artists in comedy, magic shows strip shows and musicals. This ad i caught on their famous DUECE bus, said even Men love this show! I guess there's a

Notes on a scandal

That's one of the movies I watched in the weekend, a really good one...Its a brilliant story more like a surprising thriller; wherein you begin to perceive the world from one woman's eyes only to realise that her perception is wrong! Its mainly about two weak women, emotionally weak in different ways.. one mostly alone but alert (Barbara) and the other in a complete family home but mostly aloof (Sheba). Their meeting place is the school they teach in, while Barbara is a year short of retirement and Sheba is new to the school. Sheba commits the mistake of getting involved with a student, maybe just slightly older than her daughter, which becomes Barbara's blackmail chance to get closer to Sheba, pull her away from her world and carry out things in her manner. Not too far from the scandal and the shame Sheba has to go through, she realises that Barbara is no lesser than a "vampire"! The movie is a gripping, emotional drama and with great artists,Judi Dench and Cate B

Changing the tempo...

Besides the fortnightly adventures, the weekdays are pretty challenging...now when I say challenging, its not like you guys working in office and meeting the pressures/deadlines...my challenge is totally in the opposite direction....its about having loads of time in hand and figuring out what to do when, its about the challenge to become a housewife, I guess. Frankly, once you have worked, given half of your mind outside home, this state is quite demanding according to me. Besides the fact that the surroundings are new and you don't have a friends' circle of your own, the lack of schedule bothers me. Ofcourse, you would say, make a schedule of your own, but what to schedule to clean n cook, what to schedule to read a book or engage in another hobby? well for the positive side, I have started going to gym around the same time everyday and couple of days of the week I have joined a Step Dance and Sculpt class...it happens to be the only true work out for my mind and body and real

It was Santa Cruz last weekend!

Santa Cruz, south to where we live, was our last weekend trip. Famous for "Mystery Spot","17 mile drive" & "Pebble Beach". Santa Cruz is about scenic beauty or maybe I am just finding every place scenic! LOL! Trust me, from where I come from, this place amazes me with the plant life- so called flora, so splendid! As planned we stopped at Mystery spot located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz and if I am not wrong, Redwoods is the name of the forest, where you will find this tourist attraction. The location itself is quite beautiful and the unexpected part was the huge crowd last Saturday, we weren't prepared for that at all. By the time we found a parking spot and checked at the ticket counter, the waiting time was 1hr 45 minutes! it was impossible to really imagine waiting that long and hence we dropped the plan, maybe some other time! I would say book you tickets and choose your timing online to save from the delay. We decided to drive to the Pe

A visit to roller-coaster city

SanFrancisco was the escapade for last weekend - old, industrial, congested, beautiful and massive construction are features of this city.I was very amused by the roads inside the city, build over hills - steep going up and down , like you are going on roller-coaster ride!! The crooked street on Lombard just kept winding down quite steep surrounded by house s and well-done gardens, its a beauty! And everytime you are around these up n down streets , its a very good excercise! LOL! ;-) Besides driving around the downtown we went to the bay, checked out the bay bridge, walked down to the Aquarium there- quite a good break with the extraordinary colors under the Bay-fishes,sharks,batrays, star fishes, jelly fishes all moving or around and over you was especially fun for the children. There is also "Touch the bay" for those who wud dare to touch the baby sharks, bat rays and even the starfishes! We drove up also to the world famous "GoldenGate bridge", it was very cold thou

Fun weekend trip!!

South Lake Tahoe (Nevada) was our adventure trip this Saturday, about a 4 hr drive from where we live. we started early and until halfway i put my driving skills to test! the tuf time was for my hubby, not me...i was just glad at the opportunity!! :-)So i survived till Sacremento( i didnt know it was capital of CA). 2nd half of the drive was mainly on winding roads around the mountains while elevating yourself upto 7000ft! it was amazing as you get a scenic view of mountains n the lake below! awesome!! Once we entered the resort we first got a booking for para sail...I must admit from a distance it did look a bit too wild and so-not-like-me venture...but then the whole idea was to explore and try out new things...so went for it - from the 3 different heights of 400/800/1200ft we chose 800ft! i cudnt believe it myself, but i was in for it. so we walked around the beach area n enquired abt jet skiing while waiting for the parasail call.they made a group of 3 (a mother-daughter, a coupl

Good Food weekend

Friday night we went for dinner to a Malaysian joint called "Banana leaf". It was the first time I was going to eat Malaysian, so you can imagine my excitement, especially since we are talking food! This place is very popular and the crowd waiting for a table proved it, ambience - dim lit with good art work on the walls can be unnoticable since its nosiy in there! Prathas as starters and Pad thai noodles were too good! Chocolate mousse was amazing as ever , though i did try the fried banana with icecream which was pretty cool. Saturday morning I equipped myself with a driving permit after giving in a written test.So all I now need is good confidence on the roads here before i take an appointment for driving test.Anyways, that evening after a lot of cleaning, laundry and sleep, we decided to go for dinner n watch a movie. So this time dinner is Italian at DiCicco's- romantic place that believed in Retro music and native italian dishes. We had Bruschetta to start with and ba

In this device-filled world...

....I now own a laptop ! it was always desktops for me through out- in all the offices I have worked and at home. I always think of laptops are more personal and slightly sophisticated! Coming back to my new laptop - its not a normal purchase, its a gift from my hubby that makes it more special it gets utmost care! :-) Its so much fun while learning to get used to the keyboard and the various functions. i love the webcam and mic built in idea.I think I am going to sound like an ignorant person, but thats fine..this is me - technology and me keep a space and i am not among the early buyers in this category! this is my new "toy" ( Mom's statement) and I am absolutely loving this one! :-) All thanks to hubby!!

Interesting traffic discoveries...

Now that I am preparing myself to be equipped with a local licence, u can imagine me concentrating on the differnces in the road, compared to UAE.So here goes some interesting things i find on the roads here:- a) You may make right turns on red light on most roads here, after you check traffic for urself! b)The names of the street are parallel to the road, so look right or left not straight for directions! c) there are Sensors just behind the stop line at traffic lights, that allows the system to run accordingly--so cool! d) i didnt find a single cab or bus near my place! i think its cos my area is not city! :-( e)i like the center lane idea, that allows u to stay on it and wait until u take a left turn safely!

I'm married and now live in "mars" !

So after all that excitement and anxiety here I am blogging from my husband's laptop on a Friday afternoon exactly 2 weeks after our wedding! Yes, I am married....sometimes its important for me to keep saying this cos I dont feel it sometimes....maybe everything has happened very quick or maybe i have been preparing for this for a while! I live now far far away from home.It would take me a good 18 hrs to get home if i opt for good direct connections, so that's the most positive calculation. the wedding went off well with God's grace and we were lucky to visit respective family temples. We didn't have a honeymoon. Just yday Athena was telling me there is no honeymoon for couples settling to US after wedding- which is so true. so my "honeymoon" was at Heathrow airport on 7th. Not very romantic spot but thats the first place both of us were alone for a day and didnt have much work besides hoping to get seats in the first available flight to SFO. It was a tiring st

Last day here...

So its finally the day....few hours away from my flight, I am saying goodbye to home and everything that comes along with being here....Somehow not feeling all that bad , maybe cos the excitement of wedding is overpowering!!! I have had a great time .... :-)) I will miss home very very much as I journey to a next phase....!

It's June!!!

Can you believe its the wedding month?? Wow! now, I dont know what to say- if its come too slow or fast! LOL! I am leaving UAE in just a little over a week, getting relocated after a few weeks...there's like so much to change in coming weeks ! its unbelievable...You are seeing the excited side of me! :-) Life certainly is filled with twists and turns and each change is exciting and tensing and this event no doubt will be THE most exciting ever in my entire life !!! P.S: Do I have anyone who agrees with me???

Hunny n Amma of my life!

Life has taken me to quite a few places and before 2 decades of my life I have stayed in 3 different places - you can then imagine the varied characters I have met - liked, loved, disliked, hated and even regreted meeting!!! And at quite a low phase in my life I met a package - ya, a package...like yin~yan, like see-saw, like black n white - they came in contrasts. Totally different in backgrounds but the difference seems to be the match, the reason for combination! Such a combination is Hunny n Amma! They are fun, hyper, crazy, sweet girls - we became friends in no time...with an abrupt meeting it all began and little did I know then, that they would be part of my life! :-) We have had wonderful times with innumerable movie outings, hunny made the "best" movie selections -hehehe, coffee hang-outs, experimental eat outs, outings, long drives, beaches, lots of picture-taking and then ofcourse night-outs n stay overs! And the days we dont meet Hunny and me are catching up on the

Twinkle twinke little stars...

Babies - they are a bundle of joy, get away with anything n everything, full of surprises, curiosity at its peak, quick learners, change your life immensly and i guess actually teach you at the end of the day! Well the sudden baby talk is cos I'm now a huge fan of my 3 of my friends' little ones - Kitty, Dancing queen and Adi! I can't get enough of their pictures and their million expressions...everything is sooo cute, charming. They are absolutely adorable! Ofcourse while being overwhelmed by the 3 stars, all credit to the moms - TP, Athena n CS whose lives have now been rescheduled and ruled by their babies! Do keep sending me pics and ya videos too!

I'm not cool

Well, it doesn't take Einstein amount of thinking to figure that out, but I just realised that I really am not cool! I am in constant thought of what I might need, should I pack this or can that be avoided? Am i forgetting anything important? I am making lists every other day and I have a calender that tells me whats on the list besides the usual ! And when i'm home , I am in 2 minds - I am gonna miss something huge or will I move on quickly to a new phase. Why am I not excited and hyper as before? I am actually searching the net to find pre-wedding "jitters" , ya that's the term used! When I have some time in hand, I am looking for work, sure I find something. I am checking documents, papers, whining abt my case study! I feel guilty over naps in between the week. When I fall sick or I am tired, I push myself even more...I'm not craving to watch a movie or go for a drive....What's happened to me???? But then ofcourse, what is your definition of "cool

Will miss u...

My car- the cute206 : 65533 , will be missed terribly...so many joyous thoughts and experiences with it and has been one of my best friends! Together we've seen so many characters with us, explored new places, bad days on the road and even all those jolly, traffic-free drives with co-incidentally great music on the radio....! Never once gave up on me, always always loved it! Truly will miss u! :-(

has it ever happened to you??

Suddenly I feel there's time in my hands....the following thoughts cross my mind... - that model on the cover looks awesome, how is that so? - if they actually airbrush pictures , then how come there is a good looking category? - i want to see a brand new juice in the market, tired of the same old ones... - i feel like shopping often.its more a thought than action. - i like clothes that some other women wears...i want stuff like those! - how come there is traffic only when i want to drive? - water is good for me, very good....keep drinking..has anyone tried flavored water? - is flavored water as good for health? - how come some advertisements are soooo good? is it just one person or a team? - when everyone is busy how come i have time? - how is it that my phone rings only when i want to sleep or when i am occupied? - why do i get tanned so quickly? - how come technology is always surprising to me? - why didn't i get into sports or music when i was younger? - why is it that some

And yet again...

and this time I am targeting pomp,over-hyped, filthy-rich& made-famous weddings in India. Not too long after we could digest an Arun Nayar-Elizabeth Hurley 2nd or 3rd knot this March, whatever you want to look at it as, the nation is filling the papers, TV screens and news websites, with the yet another hyped Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai wedding! Where the plus 40 year old couple, could not get enough of 1 wedding, had another followed by the hyped arrangements and lavish spending...after which to keep the wedding alive, there were series of controversial stories such as inapropriate behaviour, mockery to religion, dis respect to parents and so on... On the other end,the Bollywood wedding had a different opening - the prior weddings were botany based, the "real" wedding is coming up sometime soon(didnt bother with the details). I was told millions of rupees are being spent on this union and there are on-the-face controversy news, about who got invited and who didn'

Wedding preparations...

So we made a trip to India for a fortnight, I had to write a review- it was one of a kind.(though the characteristic of hectic is an unavoidable feature!) For the first time- 5 of us took the same flight, thats jija, sis and 3 of us, so for a start it was exciting, and the new look of the Sharjah airport was extremely pleasing, very very refreshing! :-) AirArabia was as ever on time, love this airline, had all good experiences so far! so we landed in Mumbai and crashed after a shower at my periamma's place.my cousin's little one was so cute, full of masti...the next morning was spent in selection of a suitable wedding card.Somehow it was easy to choose, since just 1 stood out in my opinion and luckily the higher authorities approved, even though they thought it looks a little small.after 2-3 corrections, the outcome was great! relieved at that work! then we went get a lehenga for reception wear, now I love to shop in India - cos of immense competition, they make you feel like the

the day you were born...

I dont know if I am too boring, but for past 3-4 birthdays I haven't felt like celebrating...and it was not very different this time. There's someone special , but still my day wasn't special...I could ofcourse make an attempt to make others feel special!! This birthday was also not anything special- considering the activities. We were rushing up with last minute stuff on our trip(I had been to India for the wedding preparations). Though I didnt want to celebrate, I got chocolates, birthday wishes and lot of gifts this birthday! To top the list, - little studs for my new ear piercing!( from parents) - Ipod nano ( the gift that will spoil me, from cutie) - stylish black Swatch frm sis n jija! Yep, i am spoilt!!

Circket can kill too...

Just a day after Pakistan team's world cup exit , their coach- Bob Woolmer dies . He is among the best coaches in the world... Extremely sad. This news is just adding to my previous post. The coach was definitely under pressure and ofcourse upset at the performance in both matches. A very predictable result would have been the end of his coaching tenure after the World cup, but his tragic death is unjustified !

Men in BLUE-S

The latest fever in town is ICC World cup 2007 , this time spreading from the grounds at West Indies to the rest of the world. As expected, back in India, the enthusiasm grew, the hopes were built sky-high, cos the team is to bring the Cup home...the advertisements, songs, videos, the street's energy all at its peak, all over-done, as though this sport was going to save the nation from recurring crimes, corrupted governmental bodies, poverty, hunger and all the injustice! The result of energy and time and money of one nation on one team to bring "glory" is a failed debut match yesterday! What will the team excuse themselves of being in a form worse than a much younger, less experienced team? the opening batsman is out of form and wickets fall like pack of cards towards the end of the match...what a shame! The captain wants to call it a "bad dream"! Wow! we train sportsmen to be out of form and call it a dream, a sequence of uncontrolled actions...can we check if

Let the party begin...

My beautiful sister and cool jija are coming to town....so its party time ! ;-)This will be their first ever visit together after wedding! so its very exciting here, though their stay is very short. we hope to have great evenings and soon even i am travelling. we have a desert safari and dinner planned up! We will be flying together to Mumbai on 21st and then back on 3rd...This is the wedding prep trip- which means a lot of lists, choice of wedding card, wedding trousseau, accessories, function arrangements. the shopping shud be quite enjoyable and i get all the attention this time ! LOL! Final part of the trip is the temple visits n those i am really looking forward too! So this birthday is in India and that's not very exciting for me... Let me not go into details of stuff to do when i get back! I will scare myself again !!!!

mixed emotions

So there's roughly about 3 months and I am married, life's gonna change, I am sure all for the better, soon life will be NEW !! This phase is quite testing for me though...i am very stressed mostly, concerned of mainly my course completion, then there's all the formalities for living in this world, anxious about married life and ability to manage things, the endless uninvited comments about relocation, marriage, husbands, families and so on....negative i know, but i am pouring it all here...i am lacking self confidence... wedding doesnt seem prime importance...its the married life, the days beyond that is what i am looking forward to, it is where my focus is.... i guess i am thinking too much!! Sigh!

As 2007 seems to fly....

So we are here at the 2nd last day of the 2nd month....sometimes it feels like yesterday was New year's day and some other times it feels like while is time as snail-paced as traffic in the mornings! Weird....Maybe I am going crazy or not making good use of time...I dont know! February has been a very good month according to me. I finally got done with the seeminly never-ending Finance paper, V-day finally made a lot of difference (and sense too!) , my beautiful sister's birthday, SR got selected for the Radio contest , my new sis is getting a recognition from college.....and most of all, better understanding of my partner. D-day nears -- it fills me with excitement, anxiety, worries. Everyday is like part of a huge countdown, there's so much to do and a whole lot to take up and look forward to! Its testing at times, I can lose my cool and go horribly out of sync! Then I have to take a walk, get in some more fresh air and let Mother Nature calm me and in her own language tell

Excuse me...did you call it "Patriotism"?

End of Jan marked decorated vehicles in the UAE-many private cars sporting the national flag, some a football at the back, some with the rulers's pics and some others with stars and hearts stuck on the bodies ....There is sudden outflow of LOVE towards the nation... I don't follow Football anymore and hence I was unaware of the recent win of UAE team at the 18th Gulf Cup championship. What surprises me is, I have not seen such celebration by the locals even during National Day! Having lived here for most of my life, not 1 National Day all these 24 yrs has brought up decorated cars or flags.....So what is it that is being celebrated???One historic win in a game of football is more important than the success the nation has achieved? A team of 15 (or maybe more) is more important than all the lives that served the nation to bring about what it is today, possibly even the better coaching the National team received.... I dont get it...Do you? As usual, Funny world we live in.... Nev

The worst ever halt...

I was to halt at Bangalore airport on my return to Dubai, must say it is so disappointing and definitely the worst ever point to choose as a travel zone specially if you flight is delayed... To begin with, have you ever come across an airport built with large and ugly pipes all over the ceiling? Fine, dont look up, but once you walk to the check in counter its actually dirty!!Fine, its your luggage that sat on those travellators....but once you wait for the immigration to open, there is a phone booth that is devoid of an operator- result is you can't even let your loved ones know that your flight is delayed. If you brought a book, good, if not, bad luck...cos this airport has no shops, no entertainment until you are done with the security check. There is one coffee day- that is your sole reason of survival ( too bad if you dont enjoy coffee /some icecream)! So while you are now stuck inside this mess, don't even expect an announcement for proceeding to immigration or if there w

Not yet New Year...

Well ya, happy new year-start of 2007; but for me it doesn't feel all that great till now , so this time, not going by the gregorian calendar....my new new year should ideally begin this 15th. I made a trip to Singapore and had a great time with sis and bro in law...we explored tree top walking, a DHL balloon that takes you 250m high, temples, Vivo city, China town, Little India(ofcourse), Sentosa , Clarke Quay , a ride on Singapore river, Discovery center(fun) and the botanical gardens....so quite a bunch we covered. I was lucky to meet a great friend from college times and see her little one and her family, meet cousins and relatives. Managed to borrow couple of books and read them on rainy days and watched some movies....Overall, great , simple great time at the end of 2006! Need to work on my album now!
