Money - the main motive?

Earlier today I had a chance to read one of the articles by Chetan Bhagat on TOI. It was Mayawati's appearance in public wearing a  garland made of money that was the main focus on his article besides the outrageous spending by some of the rich.I cannot agree more with Mr.Bhagat about how disgusting such an appearance is and how it could be a wrong message for the coming generation. Then it just struck me that people flashing their wealth in public is similar to somebody making a presentation using a hot pink font (or any fluorescent color for that matter). that flashy color is bound to hurt our eyes, shock us in the beginning but can't really do much about it! And while this goes on, the presenter enjoys teasing us just becau se they occupy the podium, even if its only for a temporary period. This is my idea of pleasure that probably the flashy rich get in public - loving the attention, irrespective if they are loved or hated. Note: I say "flashy rich" and ...

Appa

With a mix of ups and downs, no year passes by perfect. However, 2009 , has particularly weighed heavier on the negative side. We just lost Appa, not even a month back, and somtimes its still hard to believe. Inspite of Appa's spirit to fight the cancer and his ability to bear with the immense pain, he could not be saved. And even now something tells me, neither did he expect the struggle to end this soon. No longer do I have much belief with doctors and their commitment, its just disappointing that there's no medical treatment for cancer yet. Very frustrating, terribly scary and forever puzzling, this disease is the worst of the lot. Appa will live in our hearts forever and as God will now guide us through life. His values are treasured and to be adopted. Seeking your blessings, Appa.

Why take health so lightly?

Why do we care so much for lifeless stuff such as cars, laptops or other gadgets? We feel so bad when we even a scratch on it or say when it just fell off our hands...even so that we take that extra step to protect it ! you must have just got a cover for that delicate cell phone of yours or the best of the leather bags for that laptop or did you get the best of paint coating for your car, the top class wheels or whatever to protect it?? Why isn't such care or measures taken for our health similarly? People easily take pride in having gone over the limit with booze/smoke/whatever for that matter..ever wondered how much it damages your body? So you make those appointments to get your car serviced regulary or atleast a precautionary check. have you done the same for your health? didn't you want to take that precautionary test for yourself and save yourself from more damage? these lifeless objects are easily replaced or let go of after a short period, now we can't do that for o...

High expectations, really??

i want to know what is the limit to expect or do we expect nothing at all?! Suddenly, I am wondering if I am so selfish to have asked for the basic things. Today was horribly dull for me, a day i wish hadn't even dawned! Nothing sounded right...There was absolutely no mood to even eat.. Sometimes i wish there was a routine, something to do every single day. Though i have kept myself busy with 2-3 things for a week, sometimes not having anything to do in the morning and waking up just to wonder "what now?" is something i am unable to handle.. i have been told time and again to enjoy this time period but what about it to enjoy? Today I couldn't even bring myself to watch some TV. Just too mad about situation n absolutely despise the helplessness of it. Arrrrghhhhhh! How out of sync can i get!

Debate presentation

Recently I realised how big a mistake it was to go by a professional and the vibes of the theme, ....the result, an embarrassment. The debate was presented in a lame manner. You know we shouldn't really care which party in the debate you support, as long as you have firm points and facts attached to it. So being on a dependant status, already sucks, especially if you are nurtured to become independent. To add salt to this injury, you have people querying when you would settle with a job , to which i want to say -" I don't make the rules ", but of course I can't, cos I don't want to be rude! Yea, so here you are present a debate as to why can't the spouse work and instead of conveying the spouses as a smart, intelligent individuals- whining weaklings was put across. so if the woman had a car , she wouldn't be stuck at home ( how lame)....but how can a 1 income household possibly maintain 2 cars? Even education is expensive these days, so how much ca...

Changing the tempo...

Besides the fortnightly adventures, the weekdays are pretty challenging...now when I say challenging, its not like you guys working in office and meeting the pressures/deadlines...my challenge is totally in the opposite direction....its about having loads of time in hand and figuring out what to do when, its about the challenge to become a housewife, I guess. Frankly, once you have worked, given half of your mind outside home, this state is quite demanding according to me. Besides the fact that the surroundings are new and you don't have a friends' circle of your own, the lack of schedule bothers me. Ofcourse, you would say, make a schedule of your own, but what to schedule to clean n cook, what to schedule to read a book or engage in another hobby? well for the positive side, I have started going to gym around the same time everyday and couple of days of the week I have joined a Step Dance and Sculpt class...it happens to be the only true work out for my mind and body and real...

And yet again...

and this time I am targeting pomp,over-hyped, filthy-rich& made-famous weddings in India. Not too long after we could digest an Arun Nayar-Elizabeth Hurley 2nd or 3rd knot this March, whatever you want to look at it as, the nation is filling the papers, TV screens and news websites, with the yet another hyped Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai wedding! Where the plus 40 year old couple, could not get enough of 1 wedding, had another followed by the hyped arrangements and lavish spending...after which to keep the wedding alive, there were series of controversial stories such as inapropriate behaviour, mockery to religion, dis respect to parents and so on... On the other end,the Bollywood wedding had a different opening - the prior weddings were botany based, the "real" wedding is coming up sometime soon(didnt bother with the details). I was told millions of rupees are being spent on this union and there are on-the-face controversy news, about who got invited and who didn'...

Circket can kill too...

Just a day after Pakistan team's world cup exit , their coach- Bob Woolmer dies . He is among the best coaches in the world... Extremely sad. This news is just adding to my previous post. The coach was definitely under pressure and ofcourse upset at the performance in both matches. A very predictable result would have been the end of his coaching tenure after the World cup, but his tragic death is unjustified !

Men in BLUE-S

The latest fever in town is ICC World cup 2007 , this time spreading from the grounds at West Indies to the rest of the world. As expected, back in India, the enthusiasm grew, the hopes were built sky-high, cos the team is to bring the Cup home...the advertisements, songs, videos, the street's energy all at its peak, all over-done, as though this sport was going to save the nation from recurring crimes, corrupted governmental bodies, poverty, hunger and all the injustice! The result of energy and time and money of one nation on one team to bring "glory" is a failed debut match yesterday! What will the team excuse themselves of being in a form worse than a much younger, less experienced team? the opening batsman is out of form and wickets fall like pack of cards towards the end of the match...what a shame! The captain wants to call it a "bad dream"! Wow! we train sportsmen to be out of form and call it a dream, a sequence of uncontrolled actions...can we check if ...

Excuse me...did you call it "Patriotism"?

End of Jan marked decorated vehicles in the UAE-many private cars sporting the national flag, some a football at the back, some with the rulers's pics and some others with stars and hearts stuck on the bodies ....There is sudden outflow of LOVE towards the nation... I don't follow Football anymore and hence I was unaware of the recent win of UAE team at the 18th Gulf Cup championship. What surprises me is, I have not seen such celebration by the locals even during National Day! Having lived here for most of my life, not 1 National Day all these 24 yrs has brought up decorated cars or flags.....So what is it that is being celebrated???One historic win in a game of football is more important than the success the nation has achieved? A team of 15 (or maybe more) is more important than all the lives that served the nation to bring about what it is today, possibly even the better coaching the National team received.... I dont get it...Do you? As usual, Funny world we live in.... Nev...

The worst ever halt...

I was to halt at Bangalore airport on my return to Dubai, must say it is so disappointing and definitely the worst ever point to choose as a travel zone specially if you flight is delayed... To begin with, have you ever come across an airport built with large and ugly pipes all over the ceiling? Fine, dont look up, but once you walk to the check in counter its actually dirty!!Fine, its your luggage that sat on those travellators....but once you wait for the immigration to open, there is a phone booth that is devoid of an operator- result is you can't even let your loved ones know that your flight is delayed. If you brought a book, good, if not, bad luck...cos this airport has no shops, no entertainment until you are done with the security check. There is one coffee day- that is your sole reason of survival ( too bad if you dont enjoy coffee /some icecream)! So while you are now stuck inside this mess, don't even expect an announcement for proceeding to immigration or if there w...

Response from nature

The tag line of this picture is "Yesterday Bird flew....Today, bird flu!" "The boomerang effect" is precisely the response from each of our actions or you could also put it down as Newton's third law "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction." Be it plants, air, water, animals or birds, we get back for the cruelty shown to them. There is simply no escape!I clearly remember the very sad pictures of innumerable number of birds killed due to water pollution. We always consider ourselves as higher, but I guess its time we think again, the way the world is panicking about the new- found-fatal flu. Suddenly I feel we are bunch of fools still believing that we can control the planet!

ONCE UPON A TIME....

There was Mike Papa in Romeo Sierra's life. While mutual attraction was the key point of the relationship, obvious it was they were different people.Over a period in time, their relation only got stronger and found each other hard to resist. The pleasure out of this relation meant a lot of Mike Papa while Romeo Sierra ,in some period, revolved life around Mike Papa. When things got stormy between the two, expectations changed, approach changed, much to Romeo Sierra's dislike. That boat which was built by the two, that boat believed would survive even the most terrible storm shattered.Maybe there was over confidence, maybe it was simply a wrong decision taken as to which direction the boat had to move on.... Mike Papa moved on quick-good for him.Romeo Sierra struggled to gather herself, build a new life-sometimes her silence spoke more than words, she forgot how to open up,she forgot how to speak about her innermost emotions, she acted numb to that area of her. Romeo Sierra is than...

Of rape and injustice

I don't quite remember when was the first time I had heard of a rape case but how could I possibly, when you hear about it all the time on the radio/see the case on TV or even read it in the news.Whichever paper you pick up in any part of the world, this news is just as present as any other regular news like a Bullion market update or even Currency strengths. What gets me so aggrevated is the news I read this morning- A sentence read to hang an 18 year old who killed a "man" in self-defence while he attempted rape. What did she do wrong?A young girl and for showing courage and saving herself from life-long misery gets a death sentence??? I heard about 2 weeks ago from my friend that a girl working with a call center was raped and killed by the driver himself.Further, a handicapped girl was raped by a gang of men after she was trying to look for help from another set of rapists. Whom can you trust?Where do you go if you happen to live in between such creatures? Which directi...

Definition of a hectic day

To explain that,it was 24th of September 2005 was for me! i woke up around 0545 hrs to get "in time" to work as we were having a meeting.By the time I got in my car around 0635 hrs and drove I thought i would reach office much beforetime but my calculation was wrong. The traffic was crazy--school buses, office buses, loadsapvt cars(1 is mine!)and mini vans all rushing up to reach Dubai "in time".I got to office only at 0815hrs!!yea,thats Traffic for you here! My manager was waiting to start prep for the day's meeting so as soon as i got inwe rushed into it and finished up with that, arranged the desk etc.Our guests camein about 1030 hrs and we kick started with the meeting soon after round ofintroductions. Now,I thought our presentation was quite short but i was wrong.Thequestions were many, explanations were huge, some deviations in between and about1200 hrs my UK boss walked in and we totally cut off to listen to the latest happeningson the new projects. He had to lea...

India vs USA

This comparison most probably crossed your minds after Hurricane Katrina.I think this letter is worth sharing. http://www.7days.ae/letters-to-the-editor/mumbai-v-new-orleans.-you-decide...............html Its amazing how we perceive highly advanced and developed nations as free of poverty and crime simply because they 'have' the money but when it comes to reacting to natural disasters are they really powerful and moreso reliable?
