Santa Cruz, south to where we live, was our last weekend trip. Famous for "Mystery Spot","17 mile drive" & "Pebble Beach". Santa Cruz is about scenic beauty or maybe I am just finding every place scenic! LOL! Trust me, from where I come from, this place amazes me with the plant life- so called flora, so splendid!
As planned we stopped at Mystery spot located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz and if I am not wrong, Redwoods is the name of the forest, where you will find this tourist attraction. The location itself is quite beautiful and the unexpected part was the huge crowd last Saturday, we weren't prepared for that at all. By the time we found a parking spot and checked at the ticket counter, the waiting time was 1hr 45 minutes! it was impossible to really imagine waiting that long and hence we dropped the plan, maybe some other time! I would say book you tickets and choose your timing online to save from the delay.
We decided to drive to the Pebble beach resort instead....an hour or so from the Redwoods, its a great place for photos and to picnic if you are in a group. As you enter, they give you a map to guide through the resort and the tourist attraction is mainly the 17 mile drive. Because they have a residential as well that you want to avoid in there.
As you enter, you drive through the serene Del Monte Forest and then we have stop points along the pebble beach. The best ones were Bird Rock,Lone Cypress, Spanish Bay, Ghost tree and ofcourse the Poppy Hills Golf resort. The bird rock is viewed with the help of binoculars, where birds just clutter on the rock along with seals and sea lions-its become a habitat for many, the spanish bay is filled with sea gulls and other shore birds and the color of the water is a very pretty blue.Ghost tree is of the bleached tree, really looking out of life and it was the first time I set foot in a real Golf course! We spotted some pelicans on 17 mile drive, the flowers, cypress and pines maintained just add to the beauty. Infact, Lone Cypress that stands alone on a rock, has been preserved for many years and considered one of the symbols of California. There is an info about the significance and reasoning at each point, mostly historical .
It was a real good break with nature! :-) also I am done with TOEFL as of last Friday, awaiting results and now just waiting to chill this weekend at home!
Wishing all a good weekend!
