We lag behind!

I read an article on a local paper here,7 days,it was on the number of suicide cases of students in India of recently. The reason?Parental and societal pressure. If you are Indian you would be familiar with this attitude-"If you are a good student you are a good child else you aren't!".This attitude ought to change in our nation. We cannot go on like this.So all our parents forced us into courses, some of you lucky enough to choose your subjects, some others, like me,not lucky for that, but we carried on.But as years pass by cost, admission, reputation all becomes part of courses you want to take up.We are not given Education in India. We are just taught certain skills and principles through books and practices in the schools/colleges.Education is much more, sports, music, dance all of this is given importance. If you are taught a subject as core, you are also taught a subject of your liking.May be its a violin/ballet/basket ball. But where does this happen in India?and if it happens too

Weather...can they really be forecasted?!

So BBC has been pretty good with their forecasts.Very frankly, all the while i have regarded weather forecasts as a total waste of time and energy.Atleast whenever I have kept in mind the prediction and watched out for the same the following day,it never has been right. But the other day I caught up with the weather forecasts on BBC,a very rare thing me watching TV,and they had predicted sandstorms in the Middle East followed by heavy rains in the west of India after a couple of days. Both were right!infact they were right about the days too.I am not sure if both are conicidences, cos I am pretty impressed with this one already!Moving forward you know what I would want to keep checking on! To the people in Mumbai, who have basic comfort, accept the situation, keep calm and take a break from routine.Look at it as Mother Nature's way of putting a halt to the mechanical life that we lead.Sit back, put your feet up,enjoy the rains, converse with your neighbours or those whom you have missed ou

GOD's ways!

After Sept. 11th, one company invited the remaining members of other companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space. At a morning meeting, the head of security told stories of why these people were alive... and all the stories were just:the 'L I T T L E' thi ngs. As you might know, the head of the company survived that day because his son started kindergarten. Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time. One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an auto accident. One of them missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change. One's car wouldn't start. One went back to answer the telephone. One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have. One couldn't get a taxi. The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning

Finance and Economics talkies

So as to summarize the happenings on these areas so far, The Chinese yuan has been revaluated ,thats up 2.1 pc against the USD .Good for the Yuan but not so good news for the middle east currencies that are pegged against the dollar! We are going to find our weekly grocery bills shoot up in sometime,it should not be a surprise considering a country like UAE where 80 pc of the goods are imported.Much the same would happen to the OMR,SAR ,QRD and BHD. So my nation and favorite market has signed the prestigious N-deal.I wonder how things will be in the future. What reactions would come across for the several tests done and so on.Also very hazy about what the rising foreign reserves are going to serve by year 2010.Ofcourse credibility and all but stocking up about $662 million,is that such a good idea moving forward?! Etisalat have signed the MoU with Sudan's Unity. The farsight of this company has been excellent so far.Spreading investments through out this region since their monopoly is

Parineeta

So here's the review....Thanks to the Nachos,Cola and Corn we walked in about 5 minutes late to the movie hall.It had started off with some shaadi song by mamis and then you have Saif, looking older than usual, and his stern face walking away from his ex-lover,who is married but still desires him!So when he is advanced by her there is verbal abuse for the same and leaves her crying on the stairs. The movie sees debut of Vidya Balan(Iyer girl) in the movies. This woman carries a lot of confidence in her acting and she seems truly professional.I have noticed her twice in videos of Euphoria. The story is pretty ok,adapted from Saratchandra Chaterjee's novel, though its quite predictable. What one can enjoy is the classic feel, moving away from the modernism that we live in,this movie takes us back in time to life in havelis, vintage cars, purity in language, some amount of innocence!Sanjay Dutt as usual carries out his role in ease ,playing the character that almost breaks the relation betw

Weekend events

Packed for an overnight stay on Thursday morning hoping things would work out, started late to work. For more than 3-4 days I have been starting late to work.Since traffic is not bad I take advantage of that too.So its been convinient to cook, clean and then be in office a little before 9am.Not having the boss around when you really need that sort of time is such a blessing right now! Work was quite a bit on Thursday, though i enjoyed burger, fries and juice for lunch-the weekend start was good...mmmm,then headed off to the library, spent more than 1.5 hours reading a fresh book on marketing in the KH library.Nice library, cos no one really comes and i love the idea of having the PC on every desk, making it convenient to simultanously check on the lecture notes.Class began around 1700 hrs expecting to go on till 1900 hrs.Tasks about assignment were discussed and a little before 1900 hrs we were free to go home since it was becoming overload for a week's target and we decided to have more w

movie,Kawasaki,thick shakes and mom's travel

Watching a movie in the office is something I haven't done till date ie irrespective of the organisations that i have worked for so fast.Such record was broken last afternoon when I watched Miss Congeniality at my workstation. It was fun and I never thought it would be such great time pass! Work was completed in the morning,so after lunch I was all set to go to KH.Spent about a couple of hours in the library, made notes for whatever needed overview and then read the Jobber book.A video was shown in class on Guy Kawasaki, apparently the man behind the success of Apple, his talk was refreshing and he is the sort who would never lose ground since he is firm about wanting more than material success. The beauty is this guy hasn't tasted the material success, has always moved on to do something new once an experiment was success! So his talk was on revolutionists and how they should act,10 basic steps to it,its like foundation for much better business. He was once asked to become CEO of Yaho

Over the past couple of days

These couple of days has been quite a mixture.A mixture of fun, tiredness, good food, bad head aches and so on.Yesterday,it was light work at the office and left quite a bit for today. Then spent some good time at the library.I was so very glad to be interrupted by 2 phone calls, they make my day.Sometimes i think,so what if you can't have friends with you ,atleast you get to speak to them and have a cheer over the phone! The classes were pretty okay but after 2000 hrs it was quite a test to concentrate. The lecturer is pretty good with his examples, which sort of gets me going through the 4 hours! The drive back home was pretty smooth ,with the lack of usual blocks on the roads,it was much a pleasure to drive! Sigh, that reminds me,I have a class tomorrow and its like an overview... Today was pretty cool too.Reached office quarter to eight and then finished up all the work.Being a Sunday,no phone calls/emails.Had planned to have lunch with Sam,so we met up at Gazebo's.I just realised,I

hmmmmmmm

Rare days, but very much welcome. They may be temporary happiness but they are happiness after all.Started off on a trip to the temple in the morning ,the met up with cousins and fly for bfast at a restuarant. We went on to do shopping together, the first ever time in all my life,it was a lot of fun,i must admit. We also had lunch together, though the guys preferred to leave us for kudi!then we drove back home, chatted up a while and we realised how time has flown! Folks off to sleep,i caught up with my friend and checked about the movie plan.We decided to meet in about 30 mins,so i was off and traffic was real bad.So we were a lill late to get to the theatre but we managed.I must admit Al Massa was a great experience, from the exterior look to the well done interiors and lovely cafes ,the place seemed magical. We watched Madagascar -the movie was very cute.Hilarious,as Sam mentioned, very well done,Chris Rock-ed and Jada Smith gave outstanding vocals too.The idea of how the 'civilized'

Shopping spree,Household chores,Article and views

Last evening after work, took mom for couple of malls for shopping. All stuff that she needs to take to Singapore. So we spent like 3 hours doing that and i picked up chocolates for myself.I have been eating a lot of it lately, turning back into that Choco-holic!The other day I saw a book on Chocoholics and it was mentioned ,how its still a mystery that when women eat 2 pounds of chocolates she gains 5 pounds!:-) It doesnot apply to me though... Once we got back home,I ordered pizza,it has been a while since I have had one. Also some garlic bread with coke.Gosh, all that junk made me feel alive for some time!Had to do the dishes and the clothes!:-( I hate doing the dishes, its the worst job at home.I can do laundry, dust the furniture, vaccum, organize things in the room but never liked to do dishes! Its such a horrible process of scrub, wash, dry and put them in shelves, knowing the fact that you have pull them out in less than 6 hours and use them again!Yea,i get easily bored. In the Business Time

11th and 12th day of the 7th month!

So,here we are more than half of the year gone by,lots of events this year.Beginning saw rush of sister's marriage at home, during the same time I was changing my job and then we had to make a trip to home country for my sister's wedding. The entire trip was amazing,I had fun of all sorts but the worst part was to leave my sister and return.Since the time I was born I am so used to her presence and we have been friends more than sisters and parting with her after all these years has been painful. I am trying to make new friends in town,I haven't been able to get in touch with school mates since most of them have relocated and then there is a gap that has been built over these years and that is so difficult to bridge. Its been great to still keep in touch with college friends.I love to write emails, await their replies, chat and then phone calls and sms. They really keep me going! I did some crazy shopping last evening. We went to get my dad a birthday gift and then mom and me noti

Mixed basket...

Its the holiday season out here-roads are cleared from the normal heavy traffic, all the travel agents are busy, shopping spree is high be it clothes, chocolates or even jewellery, summer camps are on for kids who are still going to stay back, summer suprises fest for them is a blessing-we never had anything like that in our days.Anyways, its a pleasure driving on fairly free roads during the day but late evenings are still quite a pain! For the past 3 days,I have been working as a travel co-ordinator.It was frustrating in the beginning because this is not part of the assignment and now I realise,I have actually enjoyed the new challenge.Mybe am just glad that my boss will be away for sometime, LOL!I am named the co-ordinator at the world-famous local airline here for both my bosses.Everytime they ask my DOB for confirmation, they help me a lot!such lovely bunch of staff they have been so far!I have learnt a few tips about it too. Then these thoughts rushed into my mind and I smiled at the tho

Hot n humid!

Sigh!the climate continues to be hot and humid out here.Though I have lived in this country for almost 2 decades I have always hated the summer.I have always longed to see rains, hailstorms and experience the snow!!! For those of you who experience the snow and the freezing temperatures,am pretty sure you would want to disagree with me.But for me right now,any other climate is better than 46 degree celsius with almost 70% humidity! If it was for the rains in my des,i am sure i would have drenched atleast once in the rain, feel the puddles with my bare feet and then after the shower would stand at the balcony and enjoy the cool breeze that the rain has left for the rest of the evening....Sigh!

Marhaba!

So here I am ,finally,in the blogging world.Late ,i know, but never the less hoping to make the best out of it!Also not one of the best things to do on a monday, professionaly speaking, but am glad !! I am hoping to do a post atleast once in a couple of days. For many years of my life i have written diaries,I am of traditional kind.Blogging sounds fun, since i am going to let my thoughts flow here n post ,hopefully, most of it. Wishing you a great day!!!
