Sherlock Holmes 2

I am a fan of both Sherlock Holmes' stories and Robert Downey Jr. I love the thrill of mystery solving and subtle mannerism of tackling dangerous situations. Yes, I enjoyed this movie, no doubt!! Jude law was even better in part 2 as Mr. Watson. Robert as Sherlock is witty, clever and obsessed. Though it is a task to match a reader's imagination of Mr. Holmes, if you like the crazy ways of robert downey, you may enjoy; if not you may find the portrayal offensive. Jade Harris as Professor Moriarty does the evil part pretty well. Overall I give it a 7.5/10! Do watch if you liked part 1!

Inspiring movies!

At some or most points, we may be looking for inspirations or ideas to better our lives and thoughts. While I need motivation to pick up my book and study, I managed to watch these movies on DVD in the recent past. I listed the exceptionally good ones and I’m not bothered by how they did in the box office, because the content or the message was truly worth. You probably have seen all or most of them, let me know your thoughts.   Invictus : Nelson Mandela bringing South Africa together, he gives people a reason to overlook color/race through rugby. This true story is all about one man’s idea as to how to stitch a torn nation that segregate strongly by color/race. He wants to create the sense of humanity and love for his country. He strongly believes in the nation’s rugby team to win the world championship and they do so. While they portray Mandela’s intelligence, they also show his humility and respect for every single individual he works with. Extraordinary Measures: I did n...

DVD Play log

As the $1 DVD Rental deal continues to be irresistable after the regular grocery shopping, here's the list of movies we watched in the last few months :- 1) Love n Dancing : - As expected, tons of dancing, but the drama makes it quite balanced. The movie is about egos, ambitions, discovery of self. 2) Angels and Demons :- I definitely think the book was much better. I have not watched The Da Vinci Code, but this one was so dragging towards the end, terrible. 3) Perfect Stranger :- Some part of it is quite predictable, but the attempt here was a plot with a lot of twists and turns with a journalist going undercover to solve the mystery of her missing childhood friend. 4)Up :- A sweet story with some hilarious moments, that could lift up your spirits like the balloons lifting up this "Senior's" house! 5)Taking of Pelham 123:- A thrilling movie, made pretty well. As a Denzel Washington fan, this was definitely worth it and Travolta does well too. I wasn...

Dil Bole Hadippa!

To be frank, what attracted me most to watch this movie, is this poster itself - big smiles, bright colors and the word "Hadippa". I was guessing it meant "Yay" and I believe I am quite close to what it really means. The movie is definitely worth watching once, well maybe not in the expensive movie ride, but atleast on DVD. The movie begins with quite a predictable pattern, but it does pick up pace. The story is of a bubbly village girl wanting to make it big in her village's cricket team and beat Pakistan in the Wagah border match. Acknowledging her skills as both left and/or right hand bats(wo)man, she eagerly attends the match selection round only to be told that "this isn't a Miss India selection". As expected this leads to Veera becoming the cute and reliable Veer Pratap on the cricket team. Rani Mukherjee is completely adorable, especially in the role of Veer Prathap. Her facial expressions and struggle through the warm up sessions could ...

missed blogging

Its been such a long time since I've made it up to here and truly missed typing away all the thoughts and recaps of events! May It was a busy month with shopping and prep to a much awaited trip home ! I also got invited to a Bachelorette bash (my first ever) and it was loaded with craziness and fun! made new friends and what an experience ! LOL! ;-) June Probably will be the best month of the year! I visited family after 2 long years and being at home and those familiar places are just so refreshing and welcome ! Finally got to see the Chennai beaches, was lucky to re-visit family temples and got to take dh to DXB! We made it to the desert safari, Qds, new malls & resort and the took some patel shots during the trip ! Dad's 60th birthday function and celebrations went well and it was painful to come back here. It was also our 2nd wedding anniversary the same day! (I know, 2 years just flew by). Also, we got bumped upto first class on our flight from SFO and that just add...

Jaane tu...

I caught this movie last night and I must admit, it was full of fresh fun....I feel after a long time I saw a Bollywood movie that was light in all senses. It really has no new story nor attempts to make a big difference to Bollywood love stories. But the entire delivery of the movie is what makes the movie stand out.All the actors are pleasing and their characters well defined, be it the friends, parents and brother. The movie overall reminds you of your college times and the fun of teenage years... I loved the music specially "Nazrein milana" in the movie.Other songs blend well with the flow of the movie...The movie revolves around denial of love between Jai and Aditi and claim to be just "FRIENDS", of course realization takes time. The scenes showing the contrast of calm Jai compared to a easily violent Aditi have been enjoyable. Some attempts of comedy by Sohail and Arbaaz Khan , I couldn't really enjoy. Besides that all other comedy were more or less accepta...

Taare Zameen Par - my review

It is a story of how the harsh world crushes the heart of little ones - little ones who have the ability to think bigger than their school books, little ones who stop to stare at nature, little ones slower than their peers because they enjoy the tiniest things- little ones that are misunderstood! So how many of us can really think out of the box? How many of us can use our mind to create? how many of us bother to build our own worlds of imagination from the most boring letters n numbers? World encourages stereotype people- so if you top in school or college you are held is high regard but if you can't get to think out of norms, rules that is okay....you read and read what others have written seldom thinking of writing something new. Here we have the protagonist , a 9 year old boy,Ishaan - filled with joy - joy collected from nature! Ishaan is extremely intelligent I would say more than even his elders at times, cos his imagination is extraordinary. While his brother just works ha...

Ratatouille

To begin with, animated movies have mostly been impressive, specially the Pixar ones are out of this world. The new addition to such creativity is Ratatouille!I guess I am late in viewing this movie, but nevertheless, here's what i want to review this flick as.... The protagonist is Remy ,a young rat, who desires more than a rat's life.He doesn't believe in "stealing" food from garbage, he desires sensible food like the humans...Remy apparently likes humans, learns to read, wants to walk on just 2 legs and manages to watch some TV....it is thru a cookery show where Remy learns about cook Gusteau and earns his inspiration to become a cook! Circumstances take Remy to Paris and to his delight to "Gusteau's Bistro". Remy can't resist to apply his cooking skills on a soup and the credit falls on Linguini, the garbage boy.It soon turns out that they become best of friends, Linguini is promoted to cook and while Linguini is hopeless at cooking, Remy instru...

Michael Clayton

The movie was a last minute plan for me last Saturday. Featuring George Clooney, the movie boasts classic acting, good dialogues and lives up to the drama cum thriller theme.... I was initially lost about the plot, cos all I could make out was the protagonist "a fixer" is a success as far as his company is concerned, but his personal traits that lets him down as to what he has become, sometimes reminded by his intelligent son. Broke and unhappy about himself, the man is completely committed to his employer. Once we understand the protagonist, we begin to sympathize with him due to unpleasant situations he goes through, day in and day out. He finally has to deal with one of the best lawyer colleague stuck in a mental trauma,Arthur Edens. This time instead of "fixing" the case,Clayton solves it, thus unwrapping the genuine plead of the unstable but brilliant lawyer. The movie grips your attention as it progresses, this flick is slow but watchable.

Saturday evening flick

"The Brave one" is the story of a common woman ,Erica, in a busy city - successful RJ, soon to be wed , happy girl whose life turns upside down cos of a senseless attack that results in the loss of her fiance. The mental trauma, the new person that she becomes due to this terrible event is the focus of the film.Inspite of the fact that she had lead her entire life in NewYork, she feels threatened at all times. To fight her fear she arms herself and eventually seeks her own revenge. There is total empathy with this character and the movie invokes thoughts of how unsafe socities have now become. Most of the movie is lead by Jodie Foster, who couldn't be better. Dialogues are excellent, specially those of the RJ show focusing on the ever-changing city and the comical ones of detective scenes. The movie has violence to watch out for and tag line was very well kept ...

Notes on a scandal

That's one of the movies I watched in the weekend, a really good one...Its a brilliant story more like a surprising thriller; wherein you begin to perceive the world from one woman's eyes only to realise that her perception is wrong! Its mainly about two weak women, emotionally weak in different ways.. one mostly alone but alert (Barbara) and the other in a complete family home but mostly aloof (Sheba). Their meeting place is the school they teach in, while Barbara is a year short of retirement and Sheba is new to the school. Sheba commits the mistake of getting involved with a student, maybe just slightly older than her daughter, which becomes Barbara's blackmail chance to get closer to Sheba, pull her away from her world and carry out things in her manner. Not too far from the scandal and the shame Sheba has to go through, she realises that Barbara is no lesser than a "vampire"! The movie is a gripping, emotional drama and with great artists,Judi Dench and Cate B...

I'm married and now live in "mars" !

So after all that excitement and anxiety here I am blogging from my husband's laptop on a Friday afternoon exactly 2 weeks after our wedding! Yes, I am married....sometimes its important for me to keep saying this cos I dont feel it sometimes....maybe everything has happened very quick or maybe i have been preparing for this for a while! I live now far far away from home.It would take me a good 18 hrs to get home if i opt for good direct connections, so that's the most positive calculation. the wedding went off well with God's grace and we were lucky to visit respective family temples. We didn't have a honeymoon. Just yday Athena was telling me there is no honeymoon for couples settling to US after wedding- which is so true. so my "honeymoon" was at Heathrow airport on 7th. Not very romantic spot but thats the first place both of us were alone for a day and didnt have much work besides hoping to get seats in the first available flight to SFO. It was a tiring st...

Dhoom 2 -review

Certain movies are very attractive for the cast , others for concept...Dhoom2 falls in the former category without any doubt! But there are sub categories ; if you get lucky the overall quality is still good and if not you regret having watched it...options in the latter case is you "go with the flow" or "rest your brain" rather!! So Dhoom 2 inspite of the heavy budgets, strong star cast lacks proper script, flow and its like a movie made for the convenience of the stars...for example, lets hv bipasha in double role , without a good reason, lets have hrithik do all the stunts, AB baby (:P) has no proper role or presence in the movie, was Ash acting ? I dont know but what a waste of money really! And the songs are not great too,low quality lyrics in all of them except for the catchy "Dhoom Machale " title track. "Crazy kiya re" is catchy too but cliche lyrics, its a forget-soon song! Overall you would hated having chosen to watch it , unless you j...

Movie buff

Its been a while, September has been an eventuful month but mostly uninvited ones...so as a result , blogging about random stuff was just not happening... I watched Bas Ek Pal with S&V this saturday and we could have killed ourselves to have just gone by the star cast...though the movie has Urmila, Juhi, Sanjay Suri and (irritating) Jimmy Shergill, the storyline was depressing and the flow was so slow that i think a snail could win the race! Woh Lamhe looks good, though the story is predictable- the track "Kya Mujhe Pyaar hai" sounds very very nice...Shiney Ahuja n Kangana make a nice pair (from the GANGSTER fame). Anyways, keeping that aside, the next movie I am awaiting is "Pyaar Ke side effects".Its been a while since I watched a Rahul Bose flick...and this time its with Ms.Sherawat too!I have liked most of his movies, I feel he has added a new line to contemporary cinema....let's hope this flick is pretty good too!

Yeh Dil Maange More...!

Its Abhishek Bachchan this time! Of recently, I am in awe of his talent, the characters he is taking up in movies, his clothes, his unshaven beard too!!! I would recommend Bluffmaster and though KANK can be quite a disappointment, AB baby rocks...I thought he was pretty cool in Yuva, Dus and Dhoom! I must admit I wasn't at all for his earlier flicks! The point is he can be the dreamy guy, conman, lying husband- laugh, dance quite well, get furious, be kiddish and even cry and yet is adorable...

Over the Hedge( nuts!)

An animated comic movie -"Over the Hedge" is a probable indirect mock on humans by the animals. Our lack of consideration for their inhabitation and the growing cities over few months whilst losing balance of nature is the highlight of this family movie. The story revolves around an odd collection of creatures who claim to be family and their meeting with a human-life and city-familiar Raccoon and their adventure. The hilarious highlight of the movie is how Food controls a human life! The best characters are Stella(the female skunk) and Hammy ( the nut-freak squirrel)!Voices and quick-wit are strengths of this flick. If you are an animation fan, this is no-doubt worth a viewing ;guaranteed to make you feel light!

ill health, movies!

I have not been blogging for some time, just caught with the routine activities...plus I got sick in the middle of the past week. I was having a a really busy week and with lack of sleep, I guess I caught the flu which is in the air here these days! It has started with the throat and hope I feel relieved by tomorrow which would mark one week of cough, cold, headache, fever and giddiness!!!Also these drugs make you soo drowsy that you wonder where the days flew! Besides that , I have been watching couple of not-so-recent movies. I happened with Cinderella Man which was based on the life of Jim Braddock,a boxing champion of the Great Depression time.I think the movie is beautifully made and Paul Giammati has done a great job besides Russel Crowe. The other one I watched was Duma- again off beat, a movie made for animal lovers and ofcourse by animal lovers. The beauty of nature captured so well, a touchy, delicate movie about a boy and his responsibility towards nature...well done, somethi...

Mission Impossible III

I am no MI fan! and I didn't think I would be going for this sequel .But having been invited to the most hyped movie these days, I thought why not! For such least expectations, MI3 was surprisingly entertaining...I enjoyed the movie! :-) Philip Seymour Hoffman did a great job in the negative role, contrast to his earlier movies. Ving Rhames- adorable and adds life with this genuine comical talents.Jonathan Rhys Meyers was soooo cute! I like this guy and I just bumped into the fact that he was the same attractive football coach in Bend it like Beckham.Tom Cruise was just so-so.The plot was pretty good and I guess they had to mix it with emotions, maybe to attract more crowd! :-P Let's face it, the quality of movies have deteriorated-but this one was still worth it for a lill more than a timepass....

PRIME time!

Written and directed by Ben Younger( I was totally ignorant of this guy), PRIME is a romantic comedy, that's off-beat and very entertaining! All the lead actors are impressive -Meryl Steep, Uma Thurman and Bryan Greenberg. The most enjoyable parts of the movie are the uninviting mix of personal and professional life for Lisa, the kiddy ways of David, his pal and high-level of openess of Rafi with her trusted counseller. The movie makes you laugh while making clear the practicalities of life..... Must say the movie lives up to its tagline-"A therapeutic new comedy." p.s:- I enjoyed myself, hope you do too!

Desi Treat

This weekend was quite a treat- a nice desi movie treat coupled with a desi dinner....couldn't be better! :-) RANG DE BASANTI was the movie venture for the week !I have been eagerly waiting for its release and booked seats a day prior to the weekend...the results ,you get the first row of seats to watch a Fun-filled movie with a message.Colors of all shades make this movie worth watching. It covers the basic feel of India, the people, their simple yet complex lives, the confused youth, the nasty religious groups, the corrupted ministers-its all in there! The movie focuses on a group of five who love college life and never want to be out of campus. An enthusiastic phirangi girl touches their lives through her interest in creating a documentary on India's real heroes. The movie revolves around making this documentary, how each one of their lives are at home. The latter part is all about losing a friend's fiancee' in an air force accident resulting from cheap and old parts used...
