2006 eve

A rain just adorned our desert city, the roads are damp, the skies are slowly clearing up and suddenly the place seems fresh! As another year has gone by, here's wishing all of you have much more brighter days ahead. May 2006 bring joy, success and lotsa love into your lives!!!

Blue.....

Great holidays and gala time over....I feel so sick right now...everything seems odd and so strange....nothing amuses me, I listened to some favorite tunes but nothing helped....so damn dull, so horrible I feel.......just wanna feel- back to normal....Yuck! I can puke.....

Final day of trip

Lots of sleep in the morning ,we then went to Causeway point at Woodlands, got some stuff for myself and then headed off to see the library. The library run by the NLB is an amazing place. The books borrowed could be returned at any branch and borrowing is automized. There is a huge variety and collection spread over 4 floors of the building besides a Audio and Multimedia Lounge. The place was simply Wow! The choice of your bus stop with the press of a button, charge of your fare with the tap of your travel card,Singapore’s highly advanced system could spoil you and its clean and green beliefs is what you may crave for on return--- maybe ,maybe not !

Uniquely Singapore -Day 10

It’s Christmas and since my brother-in-law was back from his trip we spent the entire morning chatting and sharing photos. We caught up with “Chronicles of Narnia” at the Golden Village –Yishun North Point Center in the afternoon.A small movie made with impressive visual effects, it was quite a time pass. We later visited the Murugan and Mariamma temples in Yishun as well. The structures of both rather impressive with beautiful statues of specially Anjaneyah and Mariamman. It didn’t feel far away from home land at all.On the way back home we saw a lot of parties and one in the condo as well-the merriment was welcome!

Uniquely Singapore -Day 9

The first destination for the day was Haw Par Villa. The garden made by Aw Boon Haw for his brother Aw Boon Par is worth a visit ,if you ask me.The garden is Haw's effort to communicate to the world about Chinese culture.Orginally, Burmese the family moved to Singapore where Haw's famous Tiger Balm made him a billionare. The loss of his sons and brother during Japan's invation is what led to the making of this fantasy land by balm billionare. An ideal location to take pictures where creatures are as big as or even bigger than humans, the Buddha statue, ten courts of hell , Jade house and the tomb-a colorful place this is. We then headed to Little India for exploring the shops out there and get the Indian feel.We visited the Perumal and Mariamman temples there. The Mariamman temple is about 150 years old but well maintained and expanded a beautiful place.

Uniquely Singapore- Day 8

The lazing had been missed in the last one week and to compensate thats how day 8 precisely went on.Sleeping lots and watching random channels on TV, spent time on the PC and also watched a movie on DVD.Sauna was the afternoon treat and then spent some time on the pool side. In the evening as decide we were off to the Night Safari.Dimly lit and tropical forest appearance with about 900 nocturnal animals-this was some offer .We started off with the tram ride that gave us a brief idea of the set up-The Himalayan, African and the South East asia angles and then there was "Creatures of the Night show". Participants being the racoons, owl, wolves, otters, hyenas and a python.Soon after which there was a tribal show which was primarily their catchy music and dance, with some fire, plus display of their abilities of shooting. We then went on the forest trails which was categorised into 3-the fishing cat, giants and Leapord trail. The flying squirrel was something new and they were pre...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 7!

A week is completed in Spore and waking up was sooooooooooooo difficult with the aching shoulders and heels! We started late since it was drizzling which made the weather even more perfect to sleep longer. The target for the day was the Science center and the How Par Villa. Singapore science center located in Jurong is a treat for all the children. One of the best science centers' in the world has to offer a Water works area in front which is a water-play area that also displays the strengths and usage of water. There is an eco garden connected to the Life Science area. The center entertains the adults too with activities in the Discovery center,Aviation, World of science ,Chemistry and Physical science.Spread on 4 floors,a pure learning experience and exercise of the mind for all age groups-this place is promising! Due to rain, we were too late for the How Par Villa.will try and explore that later. We went to Leoni Hill to visit a relative, a porsche place that also has the office of t...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 6

Singapore Zoo-a beautiful and quite a complete experience of animals and plants. The zoo lets us actually watch the animals out of cages and in their chosen areas of living. ‘Fragile forest’ was THE BEST part of the zoo.The bats, birds, monkeys of different species living together completely in harmony and butterflies adding beauty to this man-made forest-lots of fun!The Elephants of Asia show was very cute and well done with not only the work and play display by elephants but also explaining to the spectators what type of commands are given to the elephants by the mahuts. Snakes were all kept in glass boxes and there were quite a variety ,the main ones being the cobras, pythons and green snakes. There is a cat country that tell us the differences between the leopards and the cheetahs and also have the white tiger, lions and jaguars. White rinos, hippos, Gnus, Camels,Girraffes ,Oryx, Giant Tortoises, Meerkuts, Iguanas and Otters—all worth the time ,lovely to spend time just watching t...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 5

The Jhurong Bird park-one of the highlights of Singapore and I bet any age group would love this place. No doubts, I enjoyed myself too! We got in about noon time with the help of MRT and a taxi and then purchased a Park Hopper ticket (Zoo/Night Safari/Bird park). The area beyond the entrance is a huge discovery, filled with aviaries and man-made forests. We started off with “World of Darkness” an enclosed pitch dark areas for owls and madwoman birds.Yes,mad woman birds was new to me too! Kingfishers about 4-5 species were on display in their cages, besides a huge area for the flamingos and spoon bills. Ibises-nice bright orange birds were out in the ‘wild’ while we viewed them from cages! We could go in to the crowned pigeon aviary-very pretty birds in grey. The Lory loft was a new experience where in you are sent into a loft as tall as an average building filled with colorful and friendly lories. You feed them and they respond so well, a flight of them was an amazing sight! Inside t...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 4

Day to shop , hence went to China town in the morning and got some souvenirs .The mall that we walked into was the People's center and later on we walked down the open market which was mostly filled with clothes and footwear. It was good to look around, saw some cool handbags there too. This area is filled with the smell, may I say, of proper Chinese food. The area has a lot of pedestrian crossing which has pretty looking creepers with pink and yellow flowers adding beauty to the man-made city area also cos it was a Monday morning. Later we went to the Singapore History Museum ,it was good to walk it up from China town and since there is no heat it was not very asking museum ,contrast to my expectation, was in a modern glass building called "River side" which had other offices too area faces the Singapore river and hence the name the river we could see the Novotel and the colorful "Clarke Quay" hotels a neat bridge done there too. Well, the museum wasn't great ...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 3

As decided we started off to Sentosa island after packing some sandwiches and juices in for the rest of the day.Sentosa was some awesome experience. "Images of Singapore" being the best visit with the highlight of what makes Singapore and the wax models of the famous Raffles and other political leaders, also display of different birth and wedding ceremonies conducted in S’pore. The country takes its name from 'Singapura' which means land of lions, as seen by the fishermen in the early days. The "sky tower" by Carlsberg company was worth it too, where we got to see Singapore from almost 130 meters above sea level-this probably being the highest view of Singapore. Cinemania was fun but I have had better experiences before. Not to forget the Underwater world was amazing with almost 2000 different fishes, 100 different crabs, the Dugong attracting a lot of attention. This fish is named Gracy because of her graceful movement. She has the face of a baby cow, body ...

Uniquely Singapore-Day 2

The sober beginning to Saturday, with a lot of sleep, cooking and cleaning, ended up quite adventurous. To start with we experienced the rains in the afternoon. Sat back with some tea and snacks when senior Delhi cousin joined us and did quite a bit of chatting. We started off to Raffles Square, the Fullerton looking majestic with all the decorations and the lighting. Fullerton is Singapore’s only 7-star hotel which I learnt only later. The original Merlion by the Singapore River with water spouting out its mouth was some sight. To get the perfect look from the front a ferry ride would help but for the other visitors there is a platform built adjacent to the symbol of Singapore which is quite some help. Around the Merlion as we walk by the river the skyline of Singapore can be enjoyed. One of the prominent towers being Esplanade built in the shape of a durian fruit. Durian is also the national fruit of Singapore forbidden to carry in the MRTs or buses due to its pungent smell! At the E...

Uniquely Singapore--Day 1

Yay!!!Finally in S'pore! We landed at 1308 ,about an hour's delay, at Changi Airport--very sobre compared to the hustle-bustle at the Dubai airport.Got past immigration pretty quickly and our entrance was stamped by Premlatha behind the pink counter.Soon after which I saw my sis waving as we were going to pick our suitcases from the conveyer belt.Funnily,no screening of any of luggages and soon we were in the taxi, chit chatting about the meal in the flight, the crowd, the service of the airline that loved the Oryx. In the evening we walked a short distance to the nearest SMRT(Singapore Mass Rapid Transport) metro station and got into the 1st available metro to City Hall Station. As expected the maps were very clear about the routes and unlike Europe there were just green and red lines. Noticed in Europe we also had the blue and yellow routes. Singapore seems too small for all that. Half hour's ride took us to City Hall and we entered straight into a mall that connected us ...

Keep your distance!

If you drive around Dubai, be aware that a fine of AED 150 is charged if a motorist is found not maintaining large enough breaking distance while in motion! So this time around we don't wait for any accidents to happen, you simply get the fine! This decision by the traffic department of Dubai is a result of a recent accident on Shk Zayed Road where in a seven-car pileup blocked the traffic caused by one car that rammed recklessly into the front car. Watch out, guys!

Blogging from KH!

I have never before used the PCs at my Institute, here's the first post from KH! The setting of my library is space saving- simple ,compact shelves where the books are arranged as per the Modules that we undertake here, the Monitors are placed at 45 degree angle next to the CPU and it is viewed from the top through a see through table. To sum it up, just like how it done at the Internet parlors these days and there are just about 5 chairs here.By now you can be quite sure of the crowd that comes in here. I have this poster in front of me that says -"The Essence of Imagination: What we can easily see is only a small percentage of what is possible.Imagination is having the vision to see what is just below the suface; to picture that which is essential, but invisible to the eye." To link up the thought there is a picture of an Iceberg. I guess I am going to miss this place after all since we are soon shifting to another location.

For those who enjoy photography

I just bumped into this amazing blog site http://photo-a-day.blogsite.com which stands by its name. The owner-a professional wedding photographer, updates his site almost every day with a new photograph, the text is minimal and no wonder the responses are huge! Check this out,if you think you would enjoy!

Oriental tour!

Next week at this time , I am hopefully blogging from my sister's PC. I am so very excited to meet her after what seems ages!!!!!!!!! All the shopping, taking out suitcases to pack and choosing what stuff needs to go to laundry makes me so excited. I hardly sleep and when I do I am dreaming about her .Man, I have missed her like crazy! The only time I have been to S'pore was about 14 yrs ago, so there's lots to more to expect in terms or modern infrastructre and places to visit-specially when I have forgotten my last trip almost completely!I faintly remember Sentosa Island, but nothing besides that. Yes, there's some shopping also to do besides the outings, but mainly I am there just to spend time with her. Phew! Can't wait to get on that plane !!

Flight Plan

For best of perfomances by Jodie Foster, Peter Sarsgaard (yay!found his name) and Sean Bean, watch this movie. The plot is intelligent and gripping, there is suspense too. Story of a widow and her fight to save her little daughter --all in an aircraft, designed by her, to her advantage and presumptions of fellow passengers-totally impressive.Robert Schwentke certainly deserves credit. Moving away from the content, the aircraft was some sight-the bar lounge was awesome and the first class cabin too-ALTO Airlines to be precise. The initial scenes display harsh winter experienced in Germany and the Berlin Metro-nice and yellow,i wouldn't mind taking a ride alone on it. P.S: Had headed to the theatre to watch Exorcism of Emily Rose, but this movie was worth it and am hoping I didnt miss much!

They are Cute / Hot

Treating myself after a series of long/busy/tiring days. Here's a quick list of attractive men on screen...(ofcourse,my choice) -Adrien Brody (Current crush) -Orlando Bloom -Jude Law -Matt Damon -Rob Thomas -Joseph Fiennes -Robbie Williams -Brad Pitt -Robert Downey Jr. -Ben Affleck -Adam Sandler P.S: Not interested in any comments!

Rain rain, come again!

It's not often that i look out of the window and find rain drops settled on the corners of my office building. It looks suddenly all extra shiny and new-as though Mother Nature just proved her point again... Yes,the much awaited days are here.I love the "winter" here.I know the word must be an exaggeration for those who come from countries in the West, but this time of the year is certainly my favorite! The climate is super cool from last week-breezy and cloudy,I love it!And when we had a little rain this morning, it was perfect for those few minutes....We are blessed with this weather for about a quarter of every year.Yea, we have global warming reducing even that time period, but basically -Nov,Dec n Jan are much welcome in the desert!

13th November

13th November has always been special ,from the time I could remember!Somehow, 13 is also my lucky number besides being lucky enough to still keep in touch with a chilhoodfriend born on that date. At work,it was a light day.So I turned in my assignment and I am still waiting for a review comment.Cant wait to get that accepted and then I can work on the new modulein hand. The new module began the same evening.I went to classes after picking up aregular(veg burger) on the way.I swore never to go back to that Malu cafeteria again, though their burgers are so yummy, I have to look out for a new, closer place. Human Resources is the new module, the subject so dry,I hoped to get some help from the lecture.Nope, I was wrong. Her slow pace / her south african accent didn't help me keep interest!I had asked too many questions cos theory is so difficult to relate to in real life,I must have sounded like a dumber-er,in the context of "Dumb-Dumber andDumber-er".Anyways, we winded up quar...

Love 'em all !

EASIER TO RUN It's easier to run Replacing this pain with something numb It's so much easier to go Than face all this pain here all alone Something has been taken From deep inside of me A secret I've kept locked away No one can ever see Wounds so deep they never show They never go away Like moving pictures in my head For years and years they've played If I could change I would Take back the pain I wouldRetrace every wrong move that I made I wouldIf I could Stand up and take the blame I wouldIf I could take all the shame to the grave IWould Sometimes I remember The darkness of my past Bringing back these memories I wish I didn't have Sometimes I think of letting go And never looking back And never moving forward so There would never be a past Just washing it aside All of the helplessness inside Pretending I don't feel misplaced Is so much simpler than change It's easier to run Replacing this pain with something numb It's so much easier to go Than face all...

Happy Diwali/Happy Eid!

Wishing all had a great time for Diwali/Eid! November has been great so far....with 5 days gone by- 4 of them being holidays, I can't ask for a better start! ;-) We managed to go to the temple for Diwali, well going there isn't a big deal, the bigger deal is finding an allowed parking space during the Aarti time! Anyways, we made it , thanks to maybe lady luck ,we found parking after about 10 minutes of hunting! Mehndi on the day of Eid was fun, lunching at VN's ,her little sis was too good with the designing! It was fun having a girlie chat for hours together. We dined at Mazjah-a lebanese joint at Irish Village.Very nice for a change, though very crowded, the place smelled only of sheesha and to dine in the open was enjoyable-thanks to the current pleasant weather! I got myself a 6670,so that was the Yay! part of the holidays ! :-) I managed to get the blue color and spent a lot of time on time trying to personalize to the max! I am in love with it!! Sam came for lunch-so th...

Interesting documentary !

I caught this article on an interesting documentary -"Where did he come from, Where does he go?". Its about a guy,Douglas Bruce, who lost his memory in his 30's and even now cannot recall any part of his life until 37!!This sudden memory loss on his way to Coney Island.Ofcourse our friend didn't know why he was heading there....All he could do was to get off the train and tell the police that he didn't know who he was! They named him "Unknown White male" until he could find out for himself. Luckily for him, he finds this piece of paper with a woman's name and her number on it.On contacting her,he realizes its his ex-girl friend's mother. They help him get in touch with his sisters and father.Douglas was supposedly enjoying his early "retirement" to take up photography. To those who know Douglas this is too hard to accept.Everyone hopes he recovers his memory ,since doctors have predicted a 95% chance of the same.He must have been hit bad...

Willkommen Zurück Sam!

It's really nice to have you back and thanks a ton for all the stuff! You've been an angel.I saw a halo on your head last evening!:-) Understand its difficult to get back to routine especially when you dread it, but am hoping you will settle smooth and will feel fine soon! Looking forward to all the fun! Take care of your health, most important for now.....!

543!!!

I was about 10 minutes earlier to start from home.Today, the traffic movement was considerably faster !Guess many are already on leave to take advantage of the upcoming Eid holidays. I was stuck at the famous Clock Tower junction, much earlier than usual, when I saw this beautiful White Merc SLK park smooth right opposite me. Never before I thought white chinos with a black Tee looked so super cool /rather hot on a Week beginning !This guy had amazing looks too, easily almost like Brad Pitt, yes am talking much the same hair color, height and body structure.......what a treat for the eyes in the morning! He had his headphones on,white again adding beauty to the contrast Tee...... Phew! I think i am all set for this week, with such a start n may be i should start around the same time tomorrow to see if i get lucky again!!! :-) Oh yea,his black tee read "543" !

7DAYS - Dubai investor funds new airline/ Christian Church Plan for Qatar

1-Okay,so this business article went on to focus on "Alpha One" Airlines' investment by a Dubai biz-chap, but i couldn't help notice that the entrepreneur is a 19-year-old! I mean thats so Wow!He must be just a bright kid! Read on if interested!! http://www.7days.ae/other-business/dubai-investor-funds-new-airline-2.html 2- On spl.reports Qatar plans on a Christian church since 7th Century!!Hmmm... http://www.7days.ae/special-reports/christian-church-plan-for-qatar.html

A memorable trip!

18th of October was an eagerly awaited day last year. The family was all packed up fora fortnight's trip to India for my sister's engagement.I was visiting India after a year and half then which meant I was pretty desperate to 'feel' Indian for a break! Bangalore was fun but the schedule was too tight to spend more than 4 days and I met upmany friends, went to favorite eating joints, was shocked at the traffic, happy to go to same old temples managed to visit shopping malls and Koramangala in particular had a new look to offer!Did the standard tour of temples in Kerala and soon we were in Bombay. This visit was after more than a year and I couldnot really notice much changes due tomy poor knowledge of Bombay, however the attractive part was to meet favorites and though it was such a short stay it was all so worth it.The mehndi and last minute puchases...oh!what an atmosphere!SJ n NS made it to the functionand that was really nice of them! The function was a short one and I...

Contrast to last weekend! yay!

Thursday was a family outing and we went to the Mall of Emirates. It was huge and for those familiar with City Center in Dubai, I am talking about a mall about 3 times that size. The shops etc are much the same but as usual the crowd was putting off which is why Sahara n Al Ghurair are the best! Appreciate the parking and the designing of this place. Hoping to try out the “Ski Dubai” attraction there soon! Oh!”Ski Dubai”, yes we can go Skiing in this desert !!sounds wheee huh?!!Once I experience I shall update about it being worth it or not! The idea is I have never done it ever in my life, so what so ever the experience might be I might be wrong with the “worth” part! The best part about dinner was Fried rice, I ate much more than I thought I could!i didn’t quite enjoy the rotis n curry. Friday was Fun…..woke up pretty late n made lunch-Puri n Chole ,lazed in the afternoon n then met JJ, in the evening, after almost a month! It really seemed ages since we hung out together. Though she ...

HIS love...

Life is not easy, not a bed of roses and life basically sucks n all.Yes, i agree and agree from experience more than philosophies. My friend was frustrated, with work and the environment and she came and complained and cribbed all the time, all these days,i always felt sorry for her .I wish she would get some justice somewhere. In this busy world, it was a challenge to stay at home, knowing the fact that you could have a career life too.Last evening was one of the worst experiences she had from her colleague. She is not the kind who could even curse another, she is a believer in God and she is such a nice person, ofcourse emotional and all ,sometimes she is just too soft for this harsh world.I thought where is God?Why is he not showing her a brighter day in between all these troubles? A few hours later she called me up and sounded so happy and much more relaxed. Not in the sense that everything had healed but something new brought her happiness, a sense of belonging and soothing to her tense ne...

Weekend Blues…

Weekends generally are supposed to be better, let you cool off ,reward for working hard the entire week. But this weekend was anything but rewarding! Woke up late on Friday morning to a quiet home and my head felt like 2 tons! Whenever I want to relax n finish off the petty things around me ,which I keep putting off for the next weekend, my health goes for a complete toss. I mainly have sickness of the head n spinal. so this time my head decided to kill me and though I had the warning for more than 2 days I thought it would get better with sleep. Yea, I was wrong. I hadn’t checked my eyes in a long time, so I was wondering if that could be it,but I wasn’t having any major vision problems as well,so I went to a doc the same evening and the lady said “Migraine attack”.I thought great, simply great, the next thing that I have to live with! She vaccinated a Vetrinol n declared I will be fine in ½ hour.Man, was that painful!!! I had very very light dinner and couldn’t sleep well the entire n...

Hmmmmm

So the rush days i guess are over. The holy month has begun and everything seems sober already! Past 3 days of this week, though i have been doing a lot of things, somehow there is still some emptiness.I want to lose that feeling.Waking up in the morning with the thoughts of fighting the traffic n just never managing to get to office on time, work has been quite a lot with the month closing and reports.I get about an hour to myself before classes and I end up taking copies of management books and then getting to class-half drained!Though i am the sort who concentrates most of the times, likes to respond to questions and take down notes ,the fun of it was lost with unnecessary story telling by fellow classmates and the entire topic being so very theoritical.I get home just in time for a shower and sleep -giving me hardly six hours. One of the days i was too tired to even sleep. Its such a horrible feeling-body aches, head feels like a ton n nothing really to look fwd to the following day! Today...

Party weekend!

Didn't expect anything exciting on Thursday and was unsure about plans at the start. It turned out to be quite a party n so much fun!:-) Work was quite a bit n was pretty busy until about 1500 hrs, then met Sam for late lunch, was too bloody hungry by then that i couldn't eat!Its funny how you think its the weekend n you can keep eating, but thats the least you do that day!Caught up with "Along came Polly"on DVD which was pretty okay comedy with predictable story!Ben Stiller at his best though. We had planned to go for a Hindi musical concert that evening so 4 of us went to Mina Al Seyahi and again the concert was enjoyable but it lacked momentum n though it was supposed to "Burn the Dance floor"am sure that didn't certainly happen!Got out from there about 0100hrs. Checked out a new club in the wee hours of the morning, thanks to my cousins. The music was desi n fast n it was cool but the place was packed n hence there was shortage of O2!But the lill amount of...

My long week at work

My hectic day intro would have given you a feel of what this week at work would have been.Sunday was not very asking. But Monday was long with classes to attend in the evening .Tuesday was better without any guests in office ,but workload was high by then .All the pending stuff had to be completed.Today was cool, small meetings, explanation of current work process, closing all the month's work went off smooth.Just want tomm to be even more cooler and without any last minute activity! What did i write above?Help!!!

Craven's Red Eye

Movies in the middle of the week --rare experience ,even during college days!Caught up with Wes Craven's latest experiment last evening. Movie offers:- a)Impressive lead casts-Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy. b)Good enough pace and plot c)Keeps up with the theme without doubt Strong points like the above make the movie a very good time pass but I wouldn't recommend it strongly, something is missing in it.I am sorry, can't explain the "something"!Maybe it's just me! The movie rating-5/10.

Definition of a hectic day

To explain that,it was 24th of September 2005 was for me! i woke up around 0545 hrs to get "in time" to work as we were having a meeting.By the time I got in my car around 0635 hrs and drove I thought i would reach office much beforetime but my calculation was wrong. The traffic was crazy--school buses, office buses, loadsapvt cars(1 is mine!)and mini vans all rushing up to reach Dubai "in time".I got to office only at 0815hrs!!yea,thats Traffic for you here! My manager was waiting to start prep for the day's meeting so as soon as i got inwe rushed into it and finished up with that, arranged the desk etc.Our guests camein about 1030 hrs and we kick started with the meeting soon after round ofintroductions. Now,I thought our presentation was quite short but i was wrong.Thequestions were many, explanations were huge, some deviations in between and about1200 hrs my UK boss walked in and we totally cut off to listen to the latest happeningson the new projects. He had to lea...

Perfect evening?

What are almost perfect evenings made up of?well,i just had one,so here's the description; a-Driving your car soon after service, giving you the feeling as though you just purchased one impulsively! b-Make crisp french fries at home n finish a plate of them in less than ten mins! c-Chat with sis, lotsa fun with the cam n voice chat thing,to hear your loved ones laugh over such long distance ,all these tech things seem a true blessing then! d-Go shopping and the pleasure of finding some nice skirts, jeans n casual tops that fit perfect! e-Have pizza for dinner, ahem! not an event i know...but i love them! All i am left with is to listen to some random slow songs on the radio to finish off perfect !!!

Movie time!

So,its back to the movies after a break of about a couple of weeks.I went to watch "The Brothers Grimm" with friends last evening. The movie is a combination of fantasy ,fiction and thrillers ,though the last feature applies only to kids!Matt Damon(Will Grimm) and Heath Ledger(Jack Grimm) carry out their roles pretty well though Ledger is more adorable in terms of his personality suiting his role perfectly! The brothers who move from village to village earn fame by bogus methods to throw away 'evil creatures',finally end up with the French king's challenge to find out the reason for missing children in a particular village. The true challenge then begins and Jack Grimm makes use of his knowledge on fables.Monica Belluci looks fabulous as the Sleeping Beauty, while Lena Heady as Angelika is ok too. Enjoy the movie for its out-of-the-world concept of "Eliminating Evil".The thought that is more interesting is that these brothers actually existed in the 18th ce...

The Rose

If you enjoy thrillers and want to find some bizarre facts about the world, don't miss The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. Besides the imaginative world the author takes us into, the underlying secrets has led to controversy, but its more important to open more eyes! www.danbrown.com The website is worth a visit to know more about the author and to catch up with the interview sessions. Also the gallery is a must-see once you have finished reading.

India vs USA

This comparison most probably crossed your minds after Hurricane Katrina.I think this letter is worth sharing. http://www.7days.ae/letters-to-the-editor/mumbai-v-new-orleans.-you-decide...............html Its amazing how we perceive highly advanced and developed nations as free of poverty and crime simply because they 'have' the money but when it comes to reacting to natural disasters are they really powerful and moreso reliable?

Made in China!

Its interesting how China has been growing so rapidly in all given fields and have come out of their 'cheap' quality image. From the staple pins in your drawer to the Hindu idols are now Made in China!!!! They are priced low but are of high quality in plastic n porcelain. The article i found ! The other day I also read an article on the growing market for violins produced by this nation. I think I should enrol for a course in Chinese language to start with ! :-)

Series of air crashes

I am not sure if you have also noticed, but in the recent past, the aviation world has seen a lot of accidents and deaths. -Mandala Airlines crashed at Sumatra yesterday, killing all the passengers cabin crew! -A peru airline crashed at the Amazon jungle 3rd week of August -A west Caribbean airline crashed at Venezuala killing more than 150 in the 2nd week of August -A Cypriot airline crashed at Athens, killing all on board, again 2nd week of August -A Tunisian airline crashing at the sea off Sicily killing 13. -Start of August saw an AirFrance crashed on landing at Toronto, luckily all passengers and crew members survived. -In July there was a Russian aircraft that claimed the 60 lives when it crashed in flames into a jungle. The reports on reasons have mostly been vague and truly the summer doesn't end with anything pleasant as far as air accidents are concerned.

Business Updates

Local News: a)Hike in petrol prices: Sep 1 saw more than 30% jump in petrol prices which would ultimately drive up the living expenses.Dubai especially is known for hike in rents upto 30% every year, each time managing to shock the residents and now for the times to come grocery bills, school fees and an evening outing would cost much more. The Asian expat community however still complains that if there is some aspect that doesnot seem to improve then thats the figure on the paycheck over the months. b)Interestingly,Standard Chartered have started their Phone banking in Hindi and Urdu languages besides the standard offering in English and Arabic.Ofcourse, the Indians and Pakistanis being a large part of the expat population, this time i guess the other banks would follow suit quickly. c)An AbuDhabi Investment house worth AED 200 million has been setup to build on various investments such as pvt equity, capital markets and even asset management. They would try to bridge the gap between the ...

September's here!

The weekend started off early this time since we got a holiday on Thursday! So an excellent start to a cooler month.now a holiday comes after a long long time and was certainly more than welcome! Wednesday evening was fun-long drive with Sam n JJ andwe almost lost our way more than couple of times!we chatted quite a bit, though we found gaps wondering how to fill it up and Sam was too busy with his office calls.it was particulary fun to rest on the rocks and enjoy the cool breeze of the evening and more fun was filling Sam's car with all the beach sand! :-) Thursday was a slow start, watched tennis matches in the afternoon and then we went to Arabian Ice City at the Convention Hall. The place was actually for kids since its part of the DSS and the entrance fee was actually not worth it for adults.the place was made primarily of thermocol to give it the 'ice' look.there was just one room with ice sculptures and that was pretty cold with the temperature to maintain ice.other are...

Hottest Men in Music

Well, thanks to catching up a show on Channel V last night,I decided to rank the hottest men ever in the world of music-ahem, my selection in descending order! -EMINEM :Now this guy might have so far attracted controversy but must admit always found his looks pretty attractive inspite of his tattoo-ed body and abusive lyrics he is a great papa for his daughter! Moreover I have actually enjoyed his music-he cannot be out of this list! -Robbie Williams: He can look and sing great, his soft numbers make him desirable! -Sting :Irrespective of his age,the man is perfection when it comes to personality and not to mention his ability to create beautiful numbers. He is here to stay and ofcourse he can! :-) -Justin Timberlake: Appeal is small, sexy, moves very very well and is of right age! -Usher : the current hot favorite and seems like he wins again, this guy has a great smile, dances like its so bloody natural, skin color is an appeal besides his voice and hit numbers! I am "caught up" t...

Kicking and Screaming

Well, not exactly what i did for the weekend but the movie i watched. Will Ferrell and Ronal Duvall play father and son and their rivalry is the focus of the movie. This family entertainment is all about the son finally earning his father's respect. The comedy is pretty good and the kids made the viewing worth it!In particular i liked Dylan Mclaughlin (as Will's son) and Elliott Cho(the cute Chinese).this movie is relaxing and a good break. Now I hadnt ever read about the movie or seen a trailor before going to watch it but with zero expectations i enjoyed this one! :-) Thanks Sam for the pizza and the ride!! Athena,Congrats on the driving licence!good going!!! Hey,anyone off to Mars sighting??

Hey!!!

its been a while since we have had some news....s0 here we go, The most famous 22K jeweller ,probably globally, has asked its male employees to shave off their moustaches +facial hair to keep up with their jobs!the examples are set by the owner, himself ,the managers and all the male employees irrespective of the hierarchy!now,i find this news very very interesting!having to look formal is part of most jobs but shaving off moustaches, what formality would it create?does grooming have to go to this extent???what is most capturing is the 'pride' of these men who hail from the land that claims to be 'God's own country' seems to be hit..... So India and Pakistan,i still believe, could be the best neighbours ever, but we have decided to be influenced by political pressures even after all these years!Anyways, the point is while Indian films are "banned" in Pakistan the Indian stars are not!which goes on to show how strong piracy is.so we have ms rai, going over to thei...

The Rising.....Mangal Pandey

How was the movie?well,to sum it up i was pretty disappointed,i expected a whole lot from this movie which took 2 odd years to complete! The disappointing parts are the unnecessary songs in between the seriousness of the theme.the flow is lost there somehow. Then amisha patel does damage to her role,i dont comprehend who ever regarded her as an actress!the woman couldnot wail well, smile well and not even do the pettiest part of her role any justice!Gosh, what a waste.having a narration with old pictures of about 3 odd minutes after the last scene of the movie, plus the focus on romance spoilt the look of the movie. Though the movie has flaws, the brighter side is Aamir's excellent skills in acting, yet again proven.Toby Stephens is amazing as the William Gordon.Rani did justice to her role but Kirron Kher excelled though she had less than5 scenes in the movie! The frienship between the sepoy and the officer has been done very well and also the daily torture every man and woman had to go...

Weekends...now,then

If you live in the UAE or other Gulf countries, you will probably be excited about THE day! Thursdays have always been the most loved day for me! You get to enjoy a late evening even if you are not partying, you at least have the energy for watching a movie/dining out/meeting families, whatever that maybe! When things were much sober in this country, I am talking during my early years in school, there were just 4 channels, yes just 4, that we could watch. They were Ch33 (called ONETV now), Sharjah TV, Ajman and Abu Dhabi channels.Sharjah and Abu Dhabi were the most boring since all the programs were in Arabic. We could watch about 2 hours of cartoon on Ch33 and Ajman. There was nothing in Hindi as such available then, except of course, the first thing on Thursday morning was to check on paper what movie was being shown that night! The days we used to miss the cartoons were Mondays and Wednesdays due to dance classes! And yes, dance classes were therefore a pain then! We used go cycling ...
